What Brake Controller Will Work on My 2013 Kia Soul 2.0?

Question:

Hi Folks, I have the Curt hitch and the plug-in wiring with 4 way plug from you on my 2014 Kia Soul 2.0. I do not see a trailer electric brake controller option listed, although other smaller Kia cars are listed. What choices would work on my car? May get a light pop-up camper and it comes with electric brakes. Thanks!

There isn't a custom fit brake controller harness for your 2013 Kia Soul, but you will have the ability to use an Electric Trailer Brake Controller. I really like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Proportional Brake Controller, # 90195. This will apply the trailer brakes at the same pressure that you apply the brakes in your Kia. It also has a great diagnostic system to alert you to any issues and has an easy to read LCD display.

Utilizing your current 4-way, I would use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller- 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat, # ETBC7. This kit will include all that you need to convert your 4-way to a 7-way and add a brake controller. It includes everything from the mounting bracket for the 7-way plug to the circuit breakers, to the ring terminals. There is a wiring diagram on this linked page, but I have also linked a video that will walk you through the installation. This kit and brake controller will get you ready to pull your light pop-up camper. I'd suggest checking your owners manual for towing capacity limits on your vehicle.
