Can Extra Sway Control be Added on Curt Weight Distribution System with Sway Control

Question:

Would you ever need to add an additional sway control kit to the other side of trailer tongue? If so, can one be added to the C17062?

The Curt Weight Distribution System with Sway Control, # C17062, has built in friction sway control. You may find this system to meet your needs as is, however you do have the option of adding an additional Curt Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution System, # 17200, to the other side for increased sway control and friction on both sides of the trailer. The typical requirements for using 2 sway-control bars are if your Gross Towing Weight is between 6,000 and 10,000 lbs or if your trailer is 26 feet or longer. This type of sway control is independent friction sway control. It is a reaction based system versus a preventative system.

For the best sway control system, I recommend the Reese Straight-Line Weight Distribution with Sway Control, # RP66083. This system is designed to prevent and control sway. The spring bars have a tapered design with a hooked end that use a unique sliding device to suspend the spring bars. These dual cams allow the bars to move while providing constant tension. These cams hold the trailer steady while allowing the bars to overcome that tension for turning and automatically readjust into place for straight driving. You would need to purchase a hitch ball with this system like # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball. This is a superior sway control system. This system is for tongue weights between 400 and 800 lbs.

If your total tongue weight (which includes loaded tongue weight of the trailer and any weight loaded behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle) is greater than 800 lbs, then I'd recommend the 1,200 lb tongue weight system # RP66074. This is for tongue weights between 600-1200 lbs.

I've attached a help article to assist in your decision.
