Recommended 4-way to 7-way Trailer Wiring Adapter on 2015 Ford F-150

Question:

I have a 2015 f150 with the four flat connector for the trailer wiring. I want to wire it to the 7 round and mount it in the factory hole in the bumper. What kit would you recommend? Also is there a wiring diagram for the additional wires to complete the 7 round ?

The Pollak Pigtail Wiring Harness # PK11998 is what you need to add a 7-way on the back of your 2015 Ford F-150. If you have the oval cutout on your bumper use the Hopkins Trailer Connector # HM40975 to mount it.

To connect the wires, you'll need to cut off the existing 4-way and connect them to the appropriate wires on the pigtail. The color coding will be the following:

Green to Green
Brown to Brown
White to Ground
Red on the wiring harness to Yellow on your F-150

If the additional wires aren't exposed, they may be along the frame on the driver's side. You will need a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993 to test the wires to find the 12V battery charge wire and the brake controller wire. The 12V charge wire should have constant 12V power and the brake wire can be powered using an in-cab brake controller like part # 90195 and the Ford plug-in wiring harness # 22292.

If the additional tow package wires are not present at the back of the truck, then you can use the Draw-Tite Wiring Kit # 5506 to add the 12V battery charge wire and the brake circuit if you plan to use a brake controller.

I've attached a help article on trailer wiring as well as a couple wiring diagrams of the traditional vehicle side 7-way.
