Troubleshooting Venture M-9000-PK Landing Gear on 2010 Komfort Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

2010 Komfort 26 foot 5th wheel: The motor seems fine but under lifting load it starts to skip or miss once every few revolutions or so in ever increasing frequency until it is only skipping and not lifting....seems like a gear tooth or more are worn. It seems to do fine in retracting and even when the strength of the truck springs are helping push the nose up. I took the Venture motor off and the teeth all seem uniform and up to par. I took the gear box apart and again all seem fine....admitting Im no expert. So is the problem more likely theres too much play within the gear box tolerances....as in the non-metallic gear box housing axle bushings are wallowed out allowing the gears to move apart and skip or is it more likely there is a problem in the gears of the actual jack or do you think I am missing something else. The apparent $199 for a new motor and gear box seems a cheap price to pay and the disassembly and by extension I assume re-assembly was not particularly challenging but I dont want to purchase the motor/gearbox assembly if you dont think that is the problem. I put the gear box back together easily so I could even send it in for someone to look at if that is advisable. I also would rather not begin taking the top of the jack apart if that is unlikely to be the problem. I talked to a local RV mobile service person and it was recommended that I replace the complete jacks and everything but that seems foolish....but maybe Im wrong. Also is the M-9000-PK the entire jack assembly as it looks like the LC142178 is just the motor and gear box? What would you recommend over all?

The next step is to take apart the top of the jack and check the gears there. If you find your problem there, possibly some worn gear teeth, and you have Lippert landing gear, the repair kits are parts # LC146059 for the lead leg and # LC146060 for the follow.

Another possibility is the screw down the center of the jacks has possibly gotten stripped. However, if this is the case your best bet will be to replace the legs. You'll need to measure the outer tube to determine which legs will fit. For outer tubes measuring 29-1/2 inches you can use legs # LC179014 and # LC179013. If your outer tube is 33-1/2 inches you can use # LG-177201 and # LG-177202.

The part # LC142178 is just the landing gear motor itself.
