Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights that Come On When Key of Vehicle is On

what would cause trailer park/running lights to burn anytime ignition on, even with truck lights off?

Helpful Expert Reply:
A short between the 12 volt accessory circuit on the 7-way and the running light circuit would cause the running lights on the trailer to come on. Typically the 12 volt circuit only sees voltage when the key is on.
The running light pin and the 12 volt pins on a 7-way are also right next to each other which makes the short even more likely to happen.
