Upgrading to 1,200 Pound Weight Distribution Spring Bars for 7,725 Pound Trailer

Question:

Just bought a 2017 grey wolf 26dbh...dry hitch weight is 725. Does that include full lp tanks? If not, then what? I have two 20 lb lp tanks. I have an equalizer 10k hitch with 1000 tongue weight. Is this enough or should I upgrade to the 1200 bars? Towing with a 2013 f150. Firewood and bikes in the back as well. Thanks in advance!

The dry hitch weight is the weight with the trailer empty of everything including propane and any other cargo, water, and other items. The gross weight of your 2017 Grey Wolf 26DBH is 7,725 pounds. That is the maximum the trailer can weigh when loaded and ready to tow.

The empty weight is 5,795 pounds. So is 725 is the dry hitch weight then that is 12.5 percent of the gross trailer weight. That means that when loaded to the max 7,725 pounds the tongue weight would be around 965 pounds.

Considering that you will also be carrying firewood and bikes in the back of your 2013 Ford F-150 the tongue weight will increase some. Based on all of this going to the 1,200 spring bars is a good idea.

I can recommend replacement bars but I would need to know which weight distribution system you have. If it is a Reese Strait-Line system with trunnion bars use # RP66009 sold individually. The round bar rated for 1,200 pounds is no longer available from the manufacturer.

If you have the Equal-I-Zer brand system then the replacement 1,200 pound bars are # EQ90-01-1299 for a pair.

If you have a Fastway system with trunnion bars the replacement 1,200 pound bars are # FA92-01-1299 for a pair. And if you have a different system let me know what it is and I can determine if there is a 1,200 pound spring bar for it.
