Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a Toyota 4Runner with a 4-Way

Question:

I have a m101a2 military trailer that has a standard 7 pin wiring harness. i usually pull it with my full size truck with the 7 pin receiver. if i use my 4runner to move the trailer- is there a way to convert the trailer 7 pin down to the 4runner 4 pin?

Yes. If the 7-Way is a blade style 7-Way, which is what is sounds like, you can mount # 37185 to your 4Runner. The 4-Way will plug into it (and still be functional) and then all you will have to do is ground the white wire to the vehicle frame. The other wires on 37185 do not have to be connected but this means that only the light functions will work on the trailer.

If you need all the functions to work on the trailer then instead of # 37185 you will need # ETBC7 and a brake controller, # 90885, if the trailer has electric brakes. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you.
