Hitch Adapter for Travel Trailer to Allow Use of 2-Inch Cargo Carrier

Question:

I need a adapter to put a cargo Carrier on a travel trailer. The hitch on the trailer is 2inch square outside and 11/2inch square inside. The carrier is 2inch square outside. I looked at all of your stock and only see 2inch reduced to 1 1/4. Can you help? Thx

We do not offer hitch adapters for 1-1/2-inch hitches. You may want to re-check your measurement to be sure since the 1-1/4-inch Class I or Class II hitches are far more common on travel trailers. The linked article will be helpful.

If you do have a 1-1/4-inch hitch you can use an adapter like # HT5R from Brophy which will give you additional ground clearance thanks to its 5-inches of rise. But please note that like all hitch adapters it will cause a 50-percent reduction in your hitch capacity. This means that if your hitch were to be rated for 200-lbs of tongue weight (TW) when the adapter is used its capacity drops to 100-lbs. This also means that the combined weight of your cargo carrier and its contents all together cannot exceed that reduced 100-lb capacity.

I recommend that you check with the maker of your cargo carrier to ensure it is rated for use in a hitch on the back of a trailer.
