Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller in a 2013 Toyota Tacoma without Trailer Connector

Question:

I have watched the video for the 2012 Tacoma for the install and just after you recommend the 3040-P you show the cutting through the electrical tape around the Toyota harness next to the parking break and clearly show the exact connector I have at that location. Seconds later you show an entirely different connector from the Tacoma and plug the new connector into the mating 3040-P connector. Even though I do not have the towing package on my 2013 Tacoma I do have the connector shown and was hoping to use the 3040-P to at least provide ground and brake sense. I was hoping there was an adaptor provided with the 3040-P that did not make it into the video that would explain the transformation of connectors. So, what is up with the magical conversion of connectors in the video? If the adaptor is a bust, where do I find the brake sense line and could I just splice into the brake light line? Is there an adaptor that would actually mate to what I have. It looks like the connector 3017-P used on the Tundra but isnt quite right either.

To install a brake controller in your 2013 Toyota Tacoma that does not have a factory 7-way you are going to have to go the hardwire route. I attached an install video that will cover that process in a similar 2009 Tacoma but you would need to start with a 4-way if you do not have one already. For that you would need the part # 118496.

From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.

There is no way I can recommend you install a brake controller using the connector you found.
