As a first step, you will need a brake controller. The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 that you were looking at would be an excellent choice. The P2 is currently our best selling controller, it is very user-friendly, and simple to set up.

We offer a Brake Controller Installation Kit, part # ETBC7, which contains everything necessary for installing a controller, including all wire and hardware as well as the trailer connector, which plugs into the existing 4-pole connector.

We also have an installation video that you might find helpful. The video shows a brake controller being installed on a 2003 Sport Trac. Of course, this is a different model year, but the installation procedure on your vehicle would be just about identical.
