Electric Trailer Brake Controller for a 2010 Dodge Ram with Electronic Vehicle Information Center

Question:

Does anyone make a integrated brake controller for a 2010 dodge ram? Do the aftermarket controllers work on the evic?

An integrated brake controller would come from the factory or dealer on the 2010 Dodge Ram. If your truck does not have one, you can install an aftermarket brake controller. I have not heard of any issues with an aftermarket brake controller affecting the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC). The aftermarket controller will work independently of the EVIC.

If your truck has a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector at the rear, you will need Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Proportional Brake Controller # 90885 with Dodge Adapter, # 3021-P. I have included a link to the installation details below.

If your truck has a factory installed 4-Way flat trailer connector, you will need the above brake control/wiring adapter combo and an Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector, # 30717. The 4-Way on the truck will plug into the 4-Way on this adapter. You would then need to hardwire the remaining 4 wires. The blue wire is for brake controller output. The black wire will attach to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker. The white wire will ground to the truck frame. The remaining wire will attach to a reverse light wire behind a tail light or stowed out of the way if not needed.

If your truck does not have any trailer connector, you will first need to install the Upgraded Circuit Protected Taillight Converter Hardwire Kit with 4 Pole End, # 119178KIT. I have included a video below showing a typical installation. You will then need to install a 7 and 4-Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. I have included a link to an FAQ on installing a brake controller from scratch and a video showing the installation of an ETBC7 kit.
