Locking a Bike Rack and Bikes to a Hitch on a 2011 BMW 335i

Question:

I am looking at the Curt Trailer Hitch - C11756 for my 2011 335i. Is there a means of preventing the theft of my bicycle if the rack and bike is left on my car?

Some bike racks have built in cable locks or locking knobs and/or a hitch lock either included or that can be added. If you already have a bike rack that has neither of those features you can use a cable lock such as # e98891 to secure both the bike and rack to the hitch by routing the cable through the bike/rack and the trailer hitch safety chain loops.

If you do not already have a bike rack the Swagman Chinook # S64683 is a good option. It is Class I hitch compatible and comes with both a hitch look and the frame hooks can be locked to deter theft of the bikes and the rack.

For a hanging style rack that has locks I recommend the Thule Helium Aero # TH9042. This bike rack is also very light at 18-1/4 pounds. And it looks almost as good as your 335i! I have linked a video review of it for you.

With the Curt hitch # C11756 Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) per their warranty requirements.
