Recommendation for Carrying 4 Bikes on 2005 Toyota Corolla
Question:
I am looking to get a 4 bike rack for a 2005 Toyota Corolla which weighs about as much as 4 bikes . I can only find a class I hitch on etrailer, which makes sense given the towing capacityfoot of the Corolla. However, will this support the weight of the Yakima Double Down 4 bike with 4 bikes? thanks,

You are spot on that our trailer hitch manufacturers only design Class I trailer hitches for your 2005 Toyota Corolla, such as the Draw-Tite Class I Receiver Hitch # 24913. Because of the force exerted on the hitch and vehicle frame by the bikes when on the bike rack, Class I hitches are limited to carrying 2 bikes on a hitch rack. The best solution to allow you to carry your other 2 bikes on your Corolla is to use a roof rack and roof mounted bike racks.
For a hitch a bike rack to carry 2 bikes, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I Hitch # 24913. This hitch is custom fit for your Corolla and will not require any drilling for installation. I've linked an installation video of this hitch on a similar Corolla for you.
The 2-bike hitch mount rack I recommend is the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike Rack # HR200Z. This bike rack is a great option to securely carry two bikes and is designed to fit a Class I hitch. A platform bike rack makes it easier to load the bikes, since you don't have to work the bike over the hanging arms, and holds the bike securely at the frame and both wheels. I've attached a review video of this rack on a similar vehicle for you.
A great roof rack option for your Corolla is the Rhino Rack RS 2500 Vortex Aero Crossbar Roof Rack # RRRS011. These crossbars have an aerodynamic shape to help minimize wind noise and drag compared to traditional crossbars. The rack installs by clamping to the vehicle at the door jamb. I've attached a review video of this rack system for you.
To secure the bikes to the roof, I recommend the Yakima FrontLoader Wheel Mount Bike Carrier # Y02103. This rack will fit on the elliptical shape of the Rhino Rack crossbars and is designed to allow you to carry your bike on the roof without needing to remove the front wheel. The carrier will accommodate bikes a various sizes with wheels from 20 inches - 29 inches, including kids' wheels and 700C road bike wheels, that are no wider than 2-1/2 inches. I've attached a review video of this rack for you as well.
