Troubleshooting Curt 4-Pole Wiring Harness C56331 on 2012 Chrysler Town and Country

Question:

I installed a t-one harness c56331 on our Town and Country but I cant get all of the lights on the trailer to work. Trailer is new. Ive tested it all with a circuit tester and all connections check okay except for the ground. I even ran a wire from the harness white ground to the negative end of the car battery and I still couldnt get the circuit tester to light up for the ground. I am getting the turn signals to light up on the trailer but the break lights wont come on. I do seem a very very dim light on when I step on the break. Ive checked all my ground connections and made sure that is touching nothing but metal. Please advise.

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56331 is a confirmed fit for your 2012 Chrysler Town and Country. When a specific light function does not work, while others do work, usually the ground is the culprit. It sounds like you have checked both the wiring harness ground at the vehicle and the trailer wiring harness ground at the trailer frame to make sure both are making solid bare-metal-to-bare-metal contact.

The next thing to check is the black power wire that you ran up to the battery positive post using the supplied fuse holder and fuse. Make sure this power connection is also solid and that the fuse is not blown and is inserted fully in the holder. Check that the yellow butt connector at the fuse holder and back at the module are making solid contact. Because this is a powered-type taillight converter it will not operate without that 12V power connection at the battery.

You can disconnect the plug-in taillight connectors to check that the contact pins on the car and harness are not bent, damaged or corroded. If all is well. re-connect the fasteners and ensure they are fully seated together. Since the brake light signals travel on the yellow and green wires that also carry your turn signals, if these turn light's function, then the brakes light should too. If the brakes lights on the van, do not work then you may have a blown brake light fuse in the power distribution box under the hood.

With everything re-connected apply a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to check for signals on the contacts.
