Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2016 Honda Civic and Why Can It Only Carry 2 Bikes Max
Question:
Have a 2016 Honda Civic. Considering a hitch. Specifically the curt c92UR. Is it true it is only rated for a 2 bike -bike rack ? Is there another hitch option that is rated for a 4 bike -bike rack ? I think the curt hitch needs some tether and I do t want that. I essentially want just for bike transport but can I also put a ball hitch on to haul a trailer ? With the 24937, is there any noticeable bumper trimming that will disfigure the rear of the car? Or is it the trimming of the black lower bumper that you cant see normally anyway? I dont want a roof rack or attach a bike rack to the trunk for hauling bikes. Please direct and educate

For your 2016 Honda Civic there are only Class I hitches available. And since they have lower capacities, you can only carry up to two bikes. If you try to carry more you will damage the vehicle most likely. I had a customer come back and try to carry 3 bikes on a Class I hitch and he said the frame of his vehicle was bending and cracking. The Curt part # C92UR is a confirmed fit for your Honda Civic. The stabilizer strap that you referred to is the # 18050. Curt requires it on some racks and highly recommends it on other. It is a great idea on a class I hitch.
To tow a small trailer would require the ball mount # 3593. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2-inch ball use # 19258. And for trailer wiring you can use # 118686 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of the vehicle.
The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Thule Camber 2 part # TH9058. We asked our demo and install guys to name their favorite, most easy-to-use bike racks and this one showed up in nearly everyone's top three. Check out the review video I attached for more info.
If you plan on carrying any women's or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.
