We do offer brake controllers that are plug and play for a 2004 Toyota 4Runner because you have a 7 pin hook up at the back of your vehicle.
For a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. This controller has a customizable LCD display, storable settings and continuous diagnostics. This brake controller is our most popular and our customers find it very easy to install.
The Wiring Adapter # 3040-P will allow you to plug one end into the brake controller and then the other end into the factory plug. However, you will need to ground the white wire on this wiring adapter to a clean metal surface to finish the installation process.
I attached an installation video for the older Prodigy Brake Controller on a 2004 Toyota 4Runner. This will be a very similar process for your brake controller as this video uses the same wiring adapter, and it will show you where to plug the adapter in under your dash.
