Finding Perfect Tension to Use with Friction Sway Control with Jeep Cherokee
Question:
RE: Reese Friction Sway Control Kit - Economy - by Draw-Tite I purchased this item a couple months ago and the installation video was very good. On my first trip it seemed like the trailer was pushing my 2015 Jeep Cherokee a bit side to side. I loosend the tension bolt a half turn an that seemed to work, but the trailer then swayed a bit. Do I just keep adjusting the bolt? Also From time to time the sway bar sounds like a Moose moaning loud even with the slightest turn. It was so loud I had to take it off when traveling on the city street. Any idea why it does that? We had driven through a thunderstorm two hours before but the conditions were dry when the moaning started.

Finding the perfect adjustment for friction sway control like your # 83660 can take a bit of trial and error. It sounds like you are really close to the perfect adjustment though. I would recommend you tighten the adjustment knob a 1/4 turn and try that. That should put you right at the sweet spot.
These products do make noise. The amount of friction can cause some interesting vibrations/resonations around corners and a sound that resembles a moose moaning would be normal as odd as that sounds.
Also, when it is raining we recommend you disengage the system since traction is reduced.
You might try letting yours totally dry out and the noise should get reduced.
