How To Install A Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller On A 2001 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab

We just bought a 6x10 utility trailer with 1 axle electric brakes. How do I tell if this unit (90185) will just plug right into my vehicle? Is there a place to look at pictures of the wires? I am handy, but I really don't want to run a long cable under the truck if I don't have to!

Your 2001 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab is not wired at the dash for a plug in brake controller wire harness, but you will still be able to install the Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller. It will require that a wire be run from the rear of the vehicle to the engine compartment and a wire from the rear to under the dash to connect to the brake controller, but if you are handy it would be a pretty simple installation.

You will have to hardwire the Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller to your vehicle with the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. It does require a 4-way trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle.

The # ETBC7 Installation Kit, comes with a new 7-Way and 4-Way connector which will plug into a 4-way trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. The 4 remaining wires will be hardwired to the vehicle. I am sending a link to detailed instructions on how to install the # ETBC7 kit on your vehicle.

If you do not have a 4-way trailer connector on the back of your vehicle you will need to use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, # 118362. This part will tap into the vehicles wiring harness located underneath the truck bed near the passenger side frame rail. There is no cutting or splicing of wires.
