Choosing High or Low Profile Powered Roof Vent for 2007 Casita Spirit Deluxe Travel Trailer

Question:

I have seen discussion on choosing a high profile model fan-tastic vent for our Casita 2007 17ft spirit deluxe trailer. We are interested in the 3 speed reversible fan with a thermostat. Do the carry the different profile fans and do you know if it fits the Casita? Thank you

The standard rough opening for a roof vent is 14-1/4 x 14-1/4, which is what you should have on your Casita Spirit Deluxe.

Fantastic describes all their vent fans as high profile, but when closed they only sit 4-1/4 inches above the surface of the roof which is pretty typical for a powered vent fan, so 'high' is a relative term. Adding a Trailer Roof Vent Cover like # DMC38FR would allow you to leave the vent open while towing the trailer. Otherwise, you'd need to make sure the vent lid is closed before the trailer is moving.

A 'low profile' vent fan like the MaxxAir # MA00-04000K sits 3-3/4 inches above the roof, so the difference is only a 1/2 inch.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the MaxxAir, because you can run the fan with the vent shut, kind of like a ceiling fan. You can also leave the vent open while towing, without needing a costly cover. The MaxxAir fits the same size 14-1/4 by 14-1/4 inch rough opening.
