What is Needed to Add a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2009 Audi A6 Avant
Question:
Where does this mount on the hitch bar assembly and does it hang down below the hitch? Will it work for an 09 Audi A6 Avant?

The Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-, 5- and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Vehicle End - Ergonomic Design, # HM48470, can mount pretty much anywhere you want it to. The most common place is to the left (driver side) of the trailer hitch receiver opening. Based on the design of the trailer hitches for the 2009 Audi A6 Avant, if you were to install it on the bottom of the cross tubing of the hitch, it will be a little below the trailer hitch receiver opening. If this is too low, you can mount it in a more convenient location.
You can install this connector on the 2009 Audi A6, but it will need to be hardwired in according to the wiring diagram in the installation details linked below, and it is best suited for vehicles that already have 7-Way wiring ran, as it is just a socket. If you just need a socket, this will work just fine.
If you need the wiring installed in addition to the the socket, I recommend installing the Wiring, # C59236, instructions linked below, and then install a 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7, as the ETBC7 comes with all the necessary wiring and circuit breakers required. But, unlike the HM48470, the ETBC7 Kit does not have a 5-Way receptacle, just 4 and 7-Way. I have included a video showing the installation of an ETBC7 kit, and an FAQ that explains the installation below.
