Should Weight Distribution Be Used 2016 Nissan Frontier Towing 3,500 lb Trailer

Question:

Hello I have a 2016 nissan frontiet crew cab rwf 4.0 I am towing a 7x14 ft vnose trailer. I have a brake conttoller purchased from your site but was wondering if I needed anything else to tow safely. The trailer weight is about 2500 lbs and will only tow about 1000 lbs motorcycle and gear Would I need a WD hitch or sway bars ?? If so, could you reccomend part #s.. Thanks so much

If the trailer you plan on towing weighs more than half of the weight of the tow vehicle we recommend the use of weight distribution.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup. You should note that the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle should be considered tongue weight as well. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out.

For a trailer that weighs 3,500 lbs your tongue weight is going to be between 350 and 525 lbs. For that the Reese Trunnion System part # RP66540 would be a great choice as it has a capacity of 200-400 lbs.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.

Since you have a V-nose trailer you would need to go with bolt on brackets for the chain hangers like part # RP58305 since you wouldn't have clearance above the frame to install the included hangers.
