Trailer Hitch Towing Capacities for 2005 Audi A6
Question:
I have a 2005 Audi A6 Quatro, 4.2L, and wanted to know what is the maximum towing weight and tongue weight I can pull. Ive heard in Europe they have close to 5,000 lbs Towing Weight, but in the USA its much less. Can you offer any opinion? Id like to safely maximize both Tongue and Towing weight for this car. What brand hitch assembly would you recommend, or is a custom option available? Thank you.

Here in America, we always have lower towing capacities that the same vehicles in Europe. It has to do with the sue-happy legal climate we have over here, so they rate vehicles extremely cautiously over here.
For a hitch for your 2005 Audi A6 we have the Curt hitch part # C11344 which has towing capacities of 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight. You would need to go by the lowest capacity between your vehicle and the hitch as the overall capacity. I can't recommend you ever exceed either capacity, as that would void warranties. See your owner's manual for your limits.
For a ball mount you would want the part # 3593, 2 inch ball part # 19258, and 1-7/8 inch ball part # 19256.
