Recommended Brake Controller For Trailer With Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes

Hi, I want to put a unit on the tag axle of a 16,000 GVW motor home to replace the existing vacuum over hydraulic system. It is a Granning RT500 3000 lb tag axle with drum brakes. Looking at the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes - 1,000 psi Code: HBA-10 HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes - 1,200 psi Code: HBA-12 Would you suggest the 1000 psi output or 1200 psi model Also was going to use a Hayes 81790 Genesis Proportional Self-Leveling Brake Controller Any info could provide would be of assistance. The actuator I recommend for your 3000-lb axle is the # HBA-10. This actuator is designed for 7000-lb axles and smaller. The # HBA-12 is designed for axles that are 8000-l and bigger.

The Hayes Genesis, part # HA81790 will work with your system but I recommend using our most popular brake controller, part # 90885. This is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 and is our most popular because it is easy to install and operate. This controller will work with trailers that have 1 to 4 axles.

You will also need a breakaway kit like part # 50-85-313.
