Recommended Trailer Hitch and Trailer Wiring Harness for 2016 Mazda CX-5
Question:
I need a hitch and wiring kit for a Mazda 2016 CX-5 with a GTW of 2,000 lbs. I presently have a 1 1/4 x 1 /4 inch ball mount from another vehicle. What is your recommendation for the correct accessories for this project?

Since you mentioned that you already have 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver accessories, if you'd like to stick with a trailer hitch that has a 1-1/4 inch receiver, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class II Frame Receiver Hitch # 76138 after 2016.5 or hte # C12170 before 2016.5. These hitches will exceed the 2,000 pound towing capacity of your 2016 Mazda CX-5, work well with your existing ball mount. I have attached an installation video of this trailer hitch on a similar 2016 CX-5 for you.
The wiring harness I recommend for your vehicle is the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118563. I like this wiring harness because the taillight converter is powered so the trailer taillights will not draw power from your vehicle's wiring system. This wiring harness will install into your CX-5's factory wiring located behind the trim panels in the cargo area on both the driver's and passenger's sides. I've attached an install video of this wiring harness for you as well.
If you find you need a ball mount with a different rise or drop to tow your trailer level, I have linked a help article on choosing the correct ball mount for you. I've also attached some hitch installation and trailer towing articles.
