Recommended Bike Carrier For 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I apologize if this question has already been answered. I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that does not have a hitch. It does have rear spoiler. I am not physically able to lift two bikes to a roof rack. Can you recommend a two-bike trunk mount rack? Depending on who I ask on what day I can either use just about any Thule trunk rack or a trunk rack will rip the spoiler off of the vehicle and the world will end. Very frustrating. Thanks in advance for your help.

The best option to carry bikes on the back of your Grand Cherokee is to install a trailer hitch and use a platform-style bike carrier. This eliminates the problem with a rear spoiler like you have and a platform-style carrier is easier to load and unload. I will give you some recommendations that will work for you.

I did some research and in order to make sure you avoid the spoiler I recommend the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2 Bike Carrier, part # HRF2. This bike rack is designed for vehicles with spoilers. I have attached a photo of this bike rack installed on a vehicle with a pretty big spoiler and you can see how the design of the rack avoids putting stress on the spoiler so no fear of it being ripped off. This is a 2-bike carrier and it has a weight capacity of 35-lbs per bike.

For the 3-bike version of this bike rack you would want part # HRF2-3.

If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for this adapter bar.

If your Jeep is not a diesel and you decide to go with a trailer hitch and a hitch mounted bike rack I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch, part # 75699. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. The hitch is not limited to bike racks. It can be used for other items like cargo carriers or for towing.

The bike rack I recommend is the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2, part # HR1450Z. This bike rack holds 2 bikes with a capacity of 45-lbs per bike. The bike rack can tilt away from the vehicle even with the bikes loaded for rear cargo access. This bike rack includes a hitch lock to secure the rack to the vehicle and also the ratchet hooks have locks that secure the bikes to the rack.
