Reese Weight Distribution System Recommended for 1500-lbs of Tongue Weight
Question:
I have an older round bar dual cam 1000lb and need to upgrade to 1500lb bars. As far as I can see I need a new head RP58167, 2 bars RP58369. Can I utilize my old shank? If not assume RP54998 or RP54977. Also assume exisitng cams and hardwar on trailer will be fine. Truck is 2008 GMC 2500HD. Cheers!

Replacement head assembly # RP58167 is for trunnion bars like # RP58369 so it will not work for round bars. Instead use part # RP58112. You can use your old shank since it will have the same design.
Since your system is older and you need to upgrade it too I suggest you replace the entire set-up. That way you have no concerns about old and new parts fitting properly and you'll have the comfort of knowing that everything is new and in good shape. For a loaded trailer tongue weight in the range of 1400-1500-lbs you'd do well with the Reese Titan trunnion system # RP66006 which works over the range of 1000 to 1700-lbs. You can use your existing shank. Just add a hitch ball like # 63836.
