Recommendation for Brake Controller and Wiring for 2007 Acura MDX without Tow Package
Question:
Hi I have an 07 Acura MDX. I want to tow a Camping Trailer. I need a brake controller and 7 way connector. I found the brake controller on the website with the wiring harness that makes the brake controller install easy. But I cannot seem to find a 7 way connector that comes with the custom harness to fit into the MDX. Please assist. Thanks

It sounds like your MDX doesn't have the factory tow package, if the 7-way controller isn't mounted to the back of the vehicle. The good news is that I can help you outfit your 2007 Acura MDX for a 7-way and brake controller.
Since the vehicle isn't already prewired for a 7-way, you will need to hardwire the vehicle. You will not need the adapter because the brake controller will include a universal harness.
To equip your vehicle with a 7-way you will need the 4-way # 118424 and the # ETBC7 kit. The Draw-Tite # 118424 is a simple plug and play harness that will plug into the junction box in the driver's side rear portion of your cargo area. I have linked an image of where it plugs in for you to better see.
The # ETBC7 will then adapt the 4-way to a 4-way and 7-way connector. I have linked a second image showing how this is wired up to the vehicle.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P3 # 90195, because of its easy user interface. The P3 is a proportional brake controller which means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and applies the trailer's brakes with the same intensity. It also has a full display screen instead of codes that need deciphering. The Tekonsha P2 # 90885 is like the P3's little brother, it has all the great qualities but doesn't have the display of the P3.
I have linked all the above mentioned parts as well as a few installation videos to help show you how the wiring will install to the vehicle.
