Recommended Tire Chains for 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 4×2 Pickup with 275/60R20 Tires

Question:

We experienced some issues last winter with snow chains we purchased from auto zone. It wasnt that the chains didnt fit. It was more so they were a hazard. When inspected by officers and chain inspector we were instructed to remove them because the chains posed a hazard to our truck in the sense of possibly snapping our brake lines. So my question is what should we do and do we have any options? We have spoke to dealer with no success or answers to this problem.

Your owner's manual is the best place to check for the auto maker's thinking on tire chains. The folks that made the vehicle do get to have the last word on this topic. I reviewed an online version on the Ram website and on page 545 the manual states that only trucks with tire size 265/70R17 can use chains, and then only the low-profile S-Class type and only on the rear wheels.

If you do choose to switch to this tire size then you can use chains such as Thule's self-tensioning XG12 Pro chains, part # TH01594267, which are S-Class chains that feature advanced features like automatic tensioning, quick-release and protection for the truck's rims.
