The short roof adapter is not needed to install the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack, # SR1010, on your 2010 Volkswagen Golf 5-door. The short roof adapter is most commonly used on 2-door vehicles that do not have a door jamb for the rear crossbar to clamp onto. Since you have the 5-door model, this will not be a problem.
