Weight Distribution for a 6,500 Pound Terry Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 24 foot terry travel trailer that weighs 6500 pounds not sure on the tongue weight which weight distribution hitch would you recommend

Expert Reply:
Trailer tongue weight is usually 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. So for a trailer that weighs 6,500 pounds that would be 650 to 975 pounds. But when calculating tongue weight for weight distribution you also have to add in the weight of anything carried behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
If the tongue weight ends up being between 650 and 975 pounds then I recommend a system that is rated for 600 to 1,200 pounds such as # RP66084. This system also comes with dual-cam sway control which prevents sway from starting. For a 2-5/16 inch ball to use with this system use # 19286.
I have included some helpful links on determining tongue weight and weight distribution for you.
