Recommended Trailer Hitch For 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude With Dual Exhaust

Question:

My wife has the above described jeep latitude and I was looking at installing a Curt hidden hitches cant stand the bar under the bumper look. Your site recommends using the Curt C13172, but other sites list fit problems with the dual exhaust latitude. Other sites recommend using the C13166 to get around the exhaust pipes rattling on the hitch frame. Have your experts seen this issue and what is your opinion on this issue?

I have attached a photo of the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C13172 installed on a 2014 Cherokee you can check out. As the photo shows, there is some trimming of the rear fascia and it is installed with dual-exhaust on the vehicle.

The cross member of the hitch is behind the lower trim on the fascia and is less visible than other trailer hitches that are designed to fit. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening which makes it much easier to find carriers and accessories for than on the lower capacity hitches with a 1-1/4 inch receiver.

When installing the hitch on a vehicle the exhaust is lowered while installing and then replaced. If you have noise or rattling from the exhaust system after the hitch has been installed you can check out the attached helpful article that explains what methods can be used to deal with it.

If you plan on towing with the Latitude and do not have trailer wiring I recommend part # 118605.

If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
