Are the Mounting Brackets Needed to Install Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunk by Dutton-Lainson

Question:

I see that brackets are sold for mounting these roller bunks to the existing trailer bunks, but I dont see how they are actually mounted or needed. It looks like one could simply drill holes through the center of the roller bunk and screw or bolt it onto the existing bunk. Won't that work? Is a mounting bracket really needed?

Yes, you can simply mount the Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunk, part # DL21741, by just screwing or bolting it in. The mounting brackets, Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Bracket, part # DL21742, are optional in mounting part # DL21741, and are not required.

If you remove your old bunks and installed part # DL21741, the brackets would be needed to attach to the bottom of the bunk where the holes are and there would be no drilling required. This way the bunks would be adjustable to change the height.

If you installed part # DL21741, on top of the existing bunks the height of the boat on the trailer would change slightly by the thickness of the new bunk.
