Brake Controller and 7-Way Trailer Connector Recommendations for 2010 Honda Pilot

I have a 2010 Honda Pilot. I need a to be able to tow and have both the 4 pole and the seven prong. I need the electrical components.

There are two ways of doing this. First, you could install the # 118253 and then use a 7-way to 4-pole adapter like # PK12716. This solution would work well.

Another option would be to use the same # 118253, but you'd unplug the 7-way connector and use # HM40975 which would provide both a 7-way and a 4 pole, with no adapters needed. The # HM40975 would install in place of the 7-way included with the # 118253 kit. This would leave you with an extra 7-way lying around, but it would provide a good spare if the other one was broken.

If your trailer has electric brakes, you'll need a brake controller to actuate them. I'd recommend going with a proportional controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. A proportional controller can sense how quickly the tow vehicle is braking, and will send the correct amount of voltage to the trailer brakes so the vehicle and trailer stop at the same rate. Time delayed controllers will always send the same amount of voltage to the trailer brakes (according to how you've adjusted it) whether you've tapped on the pedal or having a full out panic stop. A proportional controller provides safer, more predictable braking. You'd also need the brake control wiring adapter harness, part # 3070-P.
