The Yakima SkyBox NX 16 # Y95AV that you referenced is designed to mount to round, square, aero, elliptical, and most factory crossbars. It will fit on crossbars up to 3-1/2 inches wide x 1-11/16 inches tall with a crossbar spread between 24 inches - 36 inches. With these measurements, the cargo box will work well on most roof racks for your 2016 Ford Escape.

The Skybox NX 16 requires 47 inches from the center of the front crossbar to the closest point of the rear hatch in order for the hatch to open fully without contacting the cargo box. We have not yet had the opportunity to test fit the Skybox NX 16 on a 2016 Ford Escape to know if the box will interfere with hatch clearance. However, we can take some measurements to see if you'll have the needed clearance. I can help you determine where the front crossbar of my favorite roof rack will fit so we can see if you will have the needed clearance to open your hatch with the Skybox 16.

If your Escape has factory raised side rails, I recommend the Rhino Rack Roof Rack # RRVA126B-2 bars and the # RRSX100 clamps because it will install around the raised side rails and will provide a sleek look. To help determine if the Skybox 16 on this roof rack will allow you to open your rear hatch, you can take a couple of quick measurements. To get the measurement you need, you will need to check out the attached instructions on bar placement. From that point, you will want to measure back to the closest point of the hatch when it is open. If it is more than 47 inches, you will clear the box when opening the hatch.

If your vehicle has a naked roof, I recommend the Thule WingBars # TH711420, with the Evo Clamp Foot Pack # TH710501, and the Fit Kit # TH145192 because this roof rack is a great, aerodynamic system with a superior custom fit for your vehicle. The center of this rail foot will sit 15 inches back from the front edge of the painted roof. From this point, you will want to measure back to the closest point of the hatch when it is open. If it is more than 52 inches, you will clear the box when opening the hatch.

I've also attached some photos showing the measurements that need to be taken to help determine if you will have sufficient hatch clearance.
