To install the Hopkins Brake Controller, # HM47294, on your 1998 Chevrolet 2500 truck you will need the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # 118315, and the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7.
Your 1998 Chevrolet truck does not have the wiring run for a brake controller, so you will need to hardwire the brake controller to your vehicle with the # ETBC7 kit.
You will first want to install the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # 118315, on your vehicle. This harness will attach to the vehicles taillight wiring harness plug located on the drivers side rear frame rail near the bumper. I am sending a link to the installation instructions on the # 118315 T-One wiring harness.
It will give you a 4-pole flat trailer connector at the rear of your truck, which will be needed to plug into the 7-way and 4-way adapter included in the # ETBC7 kit and the remaining wires to be hardwired.
We have detailed instructions and wiring diagrams to help you install the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7, and the Hopkins Brake Controller, # HM47294. I am sending a link to the instructions on installing the brake controller and the # ETBC7 installation kit.
I am also sending a link to the instructions for the Hopkins brake controller.
