If your 2011 Ford F-150 came with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector or even a factory 4-Way trailer connector then you can plug in a brake controller using the proper wiring harness. For a controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it's easy to set up and use and it is reliable.
The wiring harness needed to plug this controller into your truck is # 22292. I have linked a video showing how and where this harness plugs into on your truck.
If your truck came with just a 4-Way you will also need # 37185 to add a 7-Way. The 4-Way plugs into it and you will need to hardwire the remaining wires. Follow the 4-Way harness forward under the vehicle where it meets another connector. On this other connector peel back the covering of the wires to find some additional wires. There should be an orange wire for 12 volt power (connects to black wire on 37185) and a blue wire for electric brakes (connects to blue wire on adapter).
The white wire grounds to the truck frame. The purple wire is for reverse lights and if the trailer does not have reverse lights then it is not needed. Otherwise you would splice it into a reverse light wiring behind a reverse light.
