Your 2011 Ford Edge requires the key to be in the accessory position while towing. The accessory position allows the electrical accessories such as the radio to operate while the engine is not running. These electrical accessories could be draining your vehicle while towing.

To prevent these accessories from draining your battery, you can pull the fuses for accessories activated while in the accessory position, or you can install a fuse bypass like the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass 2, 20-AMP ATM Mini-Fuses # RM76512, that you referenced. This will allow the battery to remain connected while not allowing power to reach the electrical accessories that drain your battery.

It does seem strange that these electrical accessories would drain your battery within an hour's towing time. I recommend having your Ford dealer take a look, and he can tell you which fuses will be the ones to pull while flat towing.
