Can Bumper Mounted Trailer Hitch Be Used To Pull Tow Dolly Loaded With A Vehicle

Question:

Hello, I have a 1989 Mallard Sprinter Class C 26foot RV. It has a 4inch channel bumper that is welded to the frame in two places. Can I pull a Toyota prius and a tow dolly with a class two bumper hitch? I would contact the manufacturer, however, Mallard is out of business. Thank you!

If you use a bumper hitch like part # S64025 on your RV, it needs to have a bumper that has a continuous weld and not just in two places on the frame.

I recommend using a motor home trailer hitch like part # 82201. This bolts or welds to the frame of your RV and provides a 2 inch receiver opening at the back of your RV. This hitch adjusts from 47 to 71 inches wide and has a gross towing capacity of 3,500-lbs.

Since you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag
