Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2009 Ford F350 Cab and Chassis with a 34 Inch Frame Width

Question:

I bought a 2009 Ford F350 that is cab and chassis. From the cab to the end of the frame measures 96 inches. The frame width is 34 and one quarter inches outside. Maximum towing capacity is 18,000 lbs. I have a Draw Tite fifth wheel rated for 16K towing and 4K tongue weight. This is working well and I intend to move it to the new truck. Need recommendation for attaching it to the new truck. Also need recommendation for bumper pull hitch. Thank you.

I can help you outfit your Ford F350 Cab and Chassis for your towing needs.

Let's start with the bumper pull hitch. The 2 inch hitch that I recommend for your cab and chassis is the Curt # C15445, because of its high towing capacity. If you prefer a 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver then I would recommend the Curt # C15845. If you choose the 2-1/2 inch receiver you will be able to fully take advantage of the 18,000lb towing capacity the truck offers. Both these hitches are designed to fit your 34 inch frame width as well.

Unfortunately, while we do not have a bracket kit specifically for your vehicle to install your Draw-Tite 5th Wheel. We do have a universal kit with standard 10 bolt rails # RP30035, that the 5th wheel would need to secure into. Securing the base rails to the frame of your vehicle will be a custom application and I cannot make a recommendation for the installation of the rails since there are many differences between cab and chassis models.

What I would recommend is to consult a local fabrication shop to see which style of 5th wheel hitch could be fabricated to fit your frame. You will either need to weld or bolt a plate or rails to the frame to be able to attach the hitch to the plate or rails.

If you happen to need wiring for your new cab and chassis, you will want to get the Draw-Tite # 18252.

I have linked all the above mentioned products to this page for your convenience.
