Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2000 Ford F-250 Hauling a 1995 Kountry Star 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
Im looking for Best Buy on a 5th wheel hitch and all that needs to go along with it, for 2000 Ford F-250 7.3L Power Stroke. Can you please guide me in the right direction? My son has the Ford, I have a 1995 Kountry Star by Newmar 5th wheel. Im buying the trailer hitch and I am on a fixed income, so the least expensive and safe would be appreciated! The bed of my son's truck is 6.5 feet long. It's whatever the manufacturer says it weighs, plus about 1,000 pounds. Thanks so much for your help!

We recommend slider 5th wheel hitches for short beds like the one your son has on his Ford F-250.
The most economical 5th wheel sliding hitch and installation kit designed for his 2000 F-250 is the Reese # RP30051 with the # RP30035 kit. This kit will require drilling because of its universal fit. For a little more you can get a custom no drill mounting hardware application for his truck # RP50082-58. This kit will be much easier to install than the # RP30035.
This Reese 5th wheel has a gross towing weight (GTW) of 16,000lbs and 4,000lbs tongue weight (TW), which may work for your depending on the weight of your 5th wheel trailer. There are 10 different models of Kountry Star's that have varying dry weights from 9,500-12,500lbs. I have linked all the sliding 5th wheels we offer ordered by price, in case you find that your final trailer weight is higher than the Pro Series 16K 5th wheel can handle.
You will also need wiring so that the camper can have brake and turn signals. This will depend on the connector that they trailer has and if the F-250 already has a factory 4-way or not. I have linked all the wiring harnesses to this page for your convenience.
I have also linked a Help Article on 5th Wheels for you to check out.
