Troubleshoot Trailer Brake Lock Up on a 2012 Nissan Xterra after 7 Way and Brake Controller Install

Question:

I installed a Tekonsha 7 way tow harness 11826 with the included relays, a Tekonsha 90160 Primus IQ brake controller along with the 3050-P wire adapter. I had good connection reading on the brake controller, and all trailer lights worked including the stop and turn signals. The brakes on my 2000 coleman trailer locked up and would not move. When I unplugged the 7 way, I could freely move the trailer. Do I have a short in the breakaway switch or a bad ground for the electric brakes? Im not sure whats going on. I have the base model Xterra. thank you.

This is a fairly common problem actually. For whatever reason for some people when they go to install the # 118266 they find that the brake output and 12 volt accessory circuit are swapped which causes the brake to lock up all the time.

The issue is easiest fixed if you swap the brown and black wires on the small plug that connets to the plug socket at the hitch.
