Brake Controller and Wiring Harness for a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Factory 7-Way Connector

Question:

I have a boat trailer with electric brakes I would like to tow with my SUV 7 pin round. I am planning on buying a new SUV and considering 16 Honda Pilot, 16 Volvo XC90 or 16 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Can these vehicles be fitted with a brake controller that can integrate into the factory wiring and connector?

Of the 3 vehicles you are looking at it will be easiest to add a brake controller to the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a factory tow package that includes the factory 7-Way trailer connector. The others, Volvo XC90 or Honda Pilot, would require at least a partial hardwire of the brake controller and routing wires through the firewall and splicing into the brake switch.

With the Jeep Grand Cherokee with factory 7-Way all you will need is the brake controller and wiring harness. I recommend the P3 # 90195 because it is user friendly with easy to understand diagnostics. And for a wiring harness you will need # TK93VR. I have linked a video showing an example installation of both parts.
