Recommended Brake Controller and 7-Way Wiring Kit for a 2015 Ford F-150 Short Box w/ Factory 4-way
Question:
I have a 2015 Ford F150 4x4 short box that is factory trailer wired with a 4 wire plug. It does not have the trailer tow package. I need a 7 wire plug. Can you fix me up with everything I need for that plus a trailer brake controller

You came to the right place! I can help you outfit your 2015 Ford F-150 with a 7-way plug and help you pick out a brake controller.
To adapt that 4-way to a 7-way, I highly recommend the # ETBC7, because this kit will allow you to simply plug in that 4-way and includes all the items you need to finish setting it up for a 7-way and brake controller. It's always a good idea to put dielectric grease like # 11755 between connections that are exposed to the elements or to wrap them with electrical tape like you will see in the installation video.
As for brake controllers, I highly recommend the Tekonsha P3 # 90195, because it is a proportional brake controller which means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and applies the trailer's brakes with the same intensity. It also has a full display screen instead of codes that need deciphering. The P2 # 90885 is like the P3's little brother, it has all the great qualities but won't have the display screen. Even though your F-150 doesn't have the tow package you will need the # 22292 adapter plug to install the brake controller. I have linked an installation video of where to find your plug in your dash.
To tow you will also need a ball mount and a ball, these will be dependent on the trailer you have. For a good overall package, we have the # 989900 ball mount kit for 2 inch trailer hitches. This kit has the two most common ball sizes and two of the most requested ball mounts as well as a pin and clip and a neat carrying case. I have linked a Help Article to help you determine which ball mount setup will work for your needs.
If you don't already have a trailer hitch for your F-150 I recommend the Curt # C26HR, because of the 2 inch receiver and the higher weight capacities. This will work for you if your F-150 has the factory hitch on it.
I have linked a few installation videos of the parts mentioned above as well as the Help Article for your convenience.
