Can Bikes Be Carried at the Front of a 2015 Chevy Tahoe While Towing a Trailer

Question:

I have a 2015 Chevy Tahoe. I am looking to put the front mount on so I can carry bicycles while I am pulling our trailer. Is there any legal or other issues that I should be aware of in trying to do this? Thanks in advance for getting back to me.

There a few things to consider when carrying bikes in a front hitch such as # 65064 on your 2015 Chevy Tahoe. Driver visibility will be reduced, the bikes could block the lights, and they can also reduce air flow to the motor.

Another possible solution is to use the Curt multipurpose ball mount # D210. This will allow you to tow a trailer with the ball mount part and use a hitch bike rack in the receiver part. For this set up there are a couple of things to consider. First, the total tongue weight capacity of the D210 is 750 pounds so the combined trailer tongue weight and the bikes and bike rack cannot exceed 750 pounds. Second, depending on how many bikes you want to carry, the turning radius could be reduced because the bikes will be close to the trailer.

Another option is to use a towing bike rack such as # C18013 and a long ball mount, # BH20. This set up will help with turning radius because the ball mount is so long but the capacity is 10,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 1,000 pounds tongue weight. If you are within those capacities, then this is a solid option.
