Can a Wheel that Fit a 205/75/15 Trailer Tire also fit a 225/75/15

Question:

Hi, wanting to switch my current trailer tires. Local tire store says that 225 will fit on my current 205 tire wheel, but Im seeing different answers online. Shouldnt it fit because its also 15? Thanks

In most cases a 225/75-15 tire will fit the same rim as a 205/75-15 but it really depends on the rim size.

The 225 is designed to fit rim widths of 6, 6-1/2, and 7 inches and the 205 is designed to fit 5, 5-1/2, 6, and 6-1/2 inches. There is some overlap between the two sizes so if you have a 6 or 6-1/2 inch wide rim the 225 would fit.

For a 225 the part # TTWTRTM2257515D would be a great option as it has an 81 mph speed rating whereas most trailer tires are only limited to 65 mph.
