Compatibility of Brake Controller on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hauling Electric & Hydraulic Trailers
Question:
I plan on buying and installing a brake control for my 2014 grand Cherokee. I will use it on a snowmobile trailer with electric brakes. My boat trailer has surge brakes. Will it be an issue plugging in my boat trailer wires that dont require a brake control with one installed in my car ?

Good news! You will not have a problem switching between trailers with your brake controller installed on your vehicle.
The pin spot for the electric brake control wire should be empty on your boat trailer. So there will be no transference of power to the trailer in that connection.
If you haven't already decided on which brake controller you want I highly recommend the Tekonsha P3 # 90195, because it is a proportional brake controller which means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and applies the trailer's brakes with the same intensity. It also has a full display screen instead of codes that need deciphering. The wiring harness if you have the tow package is the # TK93VR this is a custom fit for your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. If you don't have the tow package I recommend the # ETBC7, because it includes everything you will need to get a 7-way installed on your vehicle plus a wire tester.
I have linked a few help articles as well as the P3 being installed on a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee for your convenience.
