Red Dot Appears on Pilot Brake Controller Display when Stepping on Brake Pedal

Every time I hit the brake a red dot appears on my brake box and ideas on what is causing this thanks

On the Pilot brake controller # 80550 the red dot appears when you step on the brake pedal or use the manual override WITHOUT a trailer connected. If a trailer is connected and you only get the red dot then the controller is not reading that a trailer is connected. This could be from a dirty or corroded trailer/vehicle side connector, a wiring problem to the brake magnets on the trailer, or a break in the wire from the controller to the vehicle trailer connector.
