Reese Friction Sway Control Units for 29 Foot Forest River Travel Trailer
Question:
I just purchased a used 2010 Forest River Surveyor travel trailer. It is 29foot long and came with a Reese 63970 weight distribution hitch but no sway control. With the just the equalizer hitch it towed fine with no sway. However, I will be hooking up an Idaho Tote with a couple of 4-wheelers to the back of the trailer and am worried that this may cause sway. Ive been looking at the Reese 83660 Reese Friction Sway Control Kit. It sounds like I will need two of these because the trailer is over 26. Do I just buy two of the same part or are there separate part numbers for the driver and passenger side?

Expert Reply:
The part number you provided, # RP63970 is actually a weight distribution shank, not an entire system.
For a friction sway unit, the # 83660 would work just fine. You wouldn't need a different part number for either side. Be sure to disengage the friction sway units before backing the trailer. If the trailer should jackknife, the friction sway units can be damaged.
