Curt 4-Pole Wiring Installation and Mounting Bracket for 2013 Mazda 3
Question:
I have a few questions about some trailer wiring kits. I am looking at getting a Curt vehicle wiring harness part #C56011 and wish to mount the connector permanently below my vehicle. First, is the connector with cover weatherproof enough for me to have it mounted this way? For reference I live in an area that sees snow/ice the majority of the winter Secondly, is this Curt connector compatible with the mounting bracket part #18144? And finally, what are the dimensions of this mounting bracket? Primarily I am concerned with the length of both sides to the bracket. Thanks for your help!

Expert Reply:
Curt 4-pole wiring harness # C56011 does include a protective cap for its connector. This helps prevent entry of moisture and contaminants that can lead to corrosion. But if you have periods of no towing during the winter you can simply remove the plug from its mounting bracket and keep it inside the vehicle. This is why in the linked video our installer shows how to route the 4-pole wire out the rear hatch when it is going to be needed. For a bracket the part # 18144 which is a universal fit. If you need a no-drill application here, you can add the Short Bracket (#18140) or Long Bracket (#18136).
If you do want to permanently install the connector on the car's exterior, you can do this, but it is recommended to periodically check and clean the metal contacts. Dielectric grease like # 11755 can help protect those metal contacts, especially during winter months.
