4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness for Ford Escape Without Factory Tow Package
Question:
I have a ford escape that doesnt have the tow package so no fuses or wiring to the rear of the vehicle. Is there a cigarette lighter adapter version of something I can connect temporarily?

Expert Reply:
There are no trailer wiring harnesses that can plug in to your Ford Escape 12V power outlet. 4-pole trailer wiring harnesses like Tow Ready # 118566, which fits the 2015 Escape without the factory tow package, installs by plugging into the car's tail light wiring and through a single wire connection at the battery.
This power input that operates the harness cannot be taken from an auxiliary power outlet inside the car; it must be run to the battery as described in the help article I linked for you. This is required in order to protect the car's delicate wiring from any faults or shorts in the trailer. Such conditions could damage the vehicle wiring and the powered harness provides isolation from such faults.
